On 12-21-11 in the early afternoon the Elizabeth FD was notified of a car fire in the basement section of a Large Factory (former Burry Biscuits). Companies attempted to extinguish the blaze, but were unsuccessful as the fire spread. The sprinkler system was charged with several engines feeding the connections. Foam was also used, but unsuccessful to snuff out the fire in the basement. The fire continued to spread over the hours and really intensified by midnight. Extensive Mutual Aid was brought to the scene as much large diameter hose was layed to provide large waterflow. By daybreak on 12-22-11 the thick black smoke could be seen for miles coming from the factory. The one section of the building (5 stories) had been compromised with collapses. There were several explosions as well within. By 12-23-11 heavy equipment was brought in to break open some of the walls. Units continued to rotate manpower to try and get control of the fire. The fire wasn't placed under control until 12-24-11
